Every March, the country celebrates the accomplishments of women throughout American history. On March 19, 1911, a German woman named Klara Zetkin organized the very first International Women's Day. National Women's History Month began as a single week, local event. The week of March 8th was selected to include International Women's Day. However, in 1981 congress passed a resolution making the week a National celebration and in 1987, expanded it to a full month. |
