December 20th, 1998
I woke up early and my toes were freezing. I went to the bathroom and the water wouldn't come out at all. Maybe the pipe was frozen. I turned the heater on and a few minutes later the bathroom water came out all reddish-brown due to the accumulation of iron in the old pipes. Later the water turned clear. Neil cooked us potatoes and we had left -overs from the night before. After that we went to the health food store and I bought some Echinacea. It's supposed to help the immune system. I've been taking vitamins everyday so I won't catch a cold. Now were in Eugene at the Earth First journal house. We are visiting Theresa who is involved with the Bionic Baking Brigade, another group of anarchist bakers who throws pies at politicians. She showed us some zines that she is going to pass out at the show tonight. We also met a Green Anarchist activist that was just released from jail in England. I forget his name. I didn't eat dinner and some people ordered vegetarian pizza. I was really tired and hungry. The show tonight was in a basement and there was a lot of people down there. The basement looked like a squat gig, it was huge. The 1st band that went on was Jocelyn's roommate's band called Axiom. They read poems between songs and the music was very heavy and powerful. We were up next and the PA system was very low and we messed up a few times. I kind of lost my voice. Today is the last day that Jocelyn will be performing with us. We ended our set with a chant of "all power to the people" with all of our fists raised. Next up was Aus Rotten and it was so smokey in there. There were lots of kids smoking and drinking. I only stayed for half of their set because the smoke really bothered me. I went outside and it was very sad to see so many young kids drunk and acting strange. I just hope that they drove home safely. This one kid outside took me to his pad which was a couple blocks away and gave me a book called "Anarchy after Leftism" by Bob Black. He made me promise that I would read it. I came back and the show was over. We didn't rest we just drove the 8 hours back to Idaho. I couldn't fall asleep though. Even with the heater on it was so cold. Then it started snowing. I was nervous about driving in the heavy snowfall, especially at night. Katrina, Jen and Freddy took turns driving. When we got out at the gas station the temperature was below zero. I poured Katrina's coffee on the sidewalk and in just a few seconds it turned to ice. |
